In March 2022 APQRC once again hosted the annual PQ forums for DNSPs and TNSPs with good attendance from around Australia. The forums provide a valuable opportunity for DNSPs and TNSPs to see what are the similar or different concerns each is facing and to exchange information on addressing these concerns and their PQ activities.

The two of us: Sarath Perera & Jason David

The University of Wollongong (UOW) has so many high achieving PhD students, working towards solving real world problems. Behind every great PhD candidate is a great supervisor (or two). We hear from both to understand their perspective of the post graduate journey.

Jason David is a PhD candidate investigating technical issues related to the integration of large-scale renewable energy generators into the electricity network. His supervisor Professor Sarath Perera is from the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering within the faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences and is also the former Technical Director of the Australian Power Quality and Reliability Centre.

Time of Day Analysis

In previous newsletters we discussed the impact of disturbances at different times of day. We suggested that, instead of taking a week of contiguous 10 min average readings, we could calculate V99, V1 and V50 for peak, shoulder, and off-peak demand times. This would give some insight into how voltages vary through the day. By looking at data over a ten-year period during which roof top PV generation has increased dramatically, it is possible to see what effect this is having on voltages.
