Biography
Alex holds BE, MEngSc and MBA degrees from Sydney University,
University of NSW and Deakin University respectively. He
was recognised as a Fellow of the Academy of Technology and
Engineering in 2015, he is an Honorary Fellow of Engineers
Australia, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Energy,
a Senior Member of IEEE, Member of the Australian Institute
of Company Directors and an Associate Member of the Australian
Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators. Professor Baitch
was National President of Engineers Australia in 2014.
Alex has over 40 years industry experience in the
electricity industry including electricity utilities,
manufacturing, importing and consulting. Alex is principal
of BES (Aust) Pty Ltd specialising in electrical distribution
and utilisation. Alex is one of Australia's leading authorities
on electric safety.
Alex's early career was as a cadet and then engineer
with the electricity utility for western Sydney, Prospect
County Council. He joined Holec (Australia) Pty Ltd in 1980
as Chief Electrical Engineer and in 1990 joined Toshiba
International Corporation as General Manager of its Industrial
Division. He established his own electrical engineering
consulting practice in 1993.
Apart from his various roles within Engineers Australia,
Alex has been an active member of CIGRE, including amongst
other things, chairmanship of the inaugural Australian
Panel on Distribution and Utilisation, he chaired a Working
Group of CIGRE SC C6 on Demand Side Response, that produced
a Technical Brochure on Demand Side Integration. He is
also an active member within Standards Australia as Chair
of El043 High Voltage Installations; Chair of EL034-3
Power Quality-harmonics; a member of the IEC Advisory Committee
on Transmission and Distribution (ACTAD) and member of a
number of IEC working groups.
